Send invitations 4–6 weeks before the shower

Shower invitations are the appropriate place for registry details. Guests are attending specifically to celebrate with a gift; they expect to know where the bride is registered. Keep it brief: "She is registered at [store]" or a short URL. A separate details card is a clean way to include registry links, parking information, and other logistics without crowding the main invitation.

The couple should not host their own shower

This etiquette rule has remained consistent across authorities including Emily Post: the engaged couple should not send invitations for their own shower. It can read as gift-soliciting. The host is typically the maid of honor, bridesmaids, close friends, or family — and their name must appear on the invitation so guests know who to RSVP to.

Match the tone to the event
